Ongoing Project: Breaking vases- large scale installation

About the project “ Breaking Vases” as a large scale interactive installation
“ Breaking vases” is a project about the disappearing traditional culture in the digital age. It represents  interactive six large scale screens with the images controlled by the viewers. The space is full of vases floating in the air, however, whenever the viewers enter the room and get closer to the screen, it changes the balance of the vases. In the closest screen in front of the respective viewer the vase displayed  will slowly fall down to the ground; it will break and will trigger a loud sound.

Generally, in the artwork, instead of using digital camera shooting, I will explore the 16mm black and white traditional film with a slow motion function and with an animation function in the green room. Afterwards, I will process the film and transfer it into the digital copy in order to make the digital editing and to use jitter and distance sensors for achieving the interaction.
One reason for me to take the film class is the inspiration to select physical shooting and processing for achieving a more natural match with the physical object. Another reason is film as teh advanced technology 100 years ago, now has already become the traditional material. The same thing will also happen in any other “new media”.
In General, since I started working with video installations and interactive works, I think, that the complexity of the 21st century can be the best grasped artistically using these new media. However, in the meanwhile, we should also be aware of how these technologies change our society, culture and even human behavior. “ The breaking vases” is the artwork which allows me to explore these thinking process and also the process of technically and artistically realizing it. I chose the large scale projection, because I also want to challenge the audience’s visual senses and their mind.  As an artist I am curious in what ways the viewers chose to interact with this piece and what their reaction might be.
